Electric VW Smashes Record!

The Nürburgring is a 12.9 mile circuit in Germany that many view as the go to track when it comes to benchmarking vehicles.  Back in 2017, the NIO EP9 set the record for fastest electric lap around the Nürburgring, until VW came along.

Volkswagen debuted the I.D. R at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb last year .  It became the first electric vehicle to complete the hill climb in less than 8 minutes (7:57.148)!  They didn’t stop there though!

The 680HP all electric vehicle can go from 0-60 in 2.25 seconds!  Speed isn’t the only determining factor when it comes to setting lap times, and VW knows it.  They’ve been working around the clock to improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle and tweaking all of the integral components for the perfect lap.  On June 3rd, 2019 it all paid off.

VW obliterated the previous electric lap with a time of 6:05.336!  That’s 40 seconds faster than the previous record set by the NIO EP9!!!  Check out the video above to see the I.D. R in action!
