Alpine was founded by Jean Redele back in 1955. He had previously raced for Renault and won the “Criterium de Alps” which inspired the company name.
Alpine is still technically owned by Renault, but there isn’t a single badge on the car other than the Alpine badge. This mid-engine aluminum sports car weighs less than 2,500lbs (less than an Audi TT RS). Their primary focus was shaving weight off of the vehicle wherever they could.
The 1.8L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine produces 249bhp. It will do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Due to it’s reduced weight, that 4 cylinder slings this little car around the track quite well!
